This is the full audio and video version of Tillie's "At Gettysburg." Tillie was 15 years old when she witnessed the battle of Gettysburg, July 1863. In 1889, Tillie wrote down her memories in this book. Tillie witnesses the final moments of General Weed. Meade tips her cap to her. Her father catches several rebels. Her mother helps nurse Colonel Colvill of the 1st Minnesota back to health. She witnessed the moving of the foundation of this country. I gotta tell you, I was just doing this for fun, for my own edification. But, I was moved. Tillie's recollection needs to be heard. In the video, the places she mentions are close approximations, if not on the actual ground. In my research, I learned that Tillie passed away on my birthday (albeit a few years prior). I suppose it's just one of those coincidences. I need to thank the graciousness of the Tillie Pierce House and the Jacob Weikert Farm for allowing me to film on location. Both need to be visited with fascination. War is awful and horrible. Tillie spares none of that. Her voice must be shared and remembered. I am honored to put what she saw and heard into video form. This is my official entry into this years Oscars. Video tucks in at 1 hour and 40 minutes. Whew.
