In this clip, Garfield Bright from the R&B group SHAI talks about his time at Howard University, during one of the most legendary eras in HBCU and music history — the late 80s and early 90s. SHAI were students at Howard right alongside future icons who would go on to shape Hip-Hop, R&B, and Black culture worldwide — including: • Sean “Diddy / Puff Daddy” Combs (Bad Boy Records) • Young Guru (Roc-A-Fella / Jay-Z’s engineer & producer) • Deric “D-Dot” Angelettie (The Hitmen / The Madd Rapper) • Ron Lawrence (The Hitmen) • Eric Roberson (Grammy-nominated R&B artist) • Tracy Lee (rapper) • Ras Baraka (Mayor of Newark, NJ) • plus members of Group RIFF from the film Lean On Me From fashion shows… to studio dreams… to hustle and creativity — Howard University was a cultural engine, producing leaders, artists, entrepreneurs, and musicians who helped define a generation. 🎙 The L.A.M.A.R.R.
