Our founding fathers shaped Amazing America 250 years ago, and three of them are from right here in Tennessee. Tennessee's presidential history in America begins with Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States in the early 1800s. Jackson embodied the rugged frontier spirit. A war hero of the Battle of New Orleans, he became a champion of the “common man,” expanding voter participation and reshaping American politics. His presidency helped define a stronger executive branch and established Tennessee’s place on the national stage. Just a few years later came James K. Polk, often called one of the most effective one-term presidents in U.S. history. Polk oversaw an expansion of the nation’s borders. During his presidency, the United States gained vast western territories, stretching the country from coast to coast. The third Tennessean to reach the Oval Office was Andrew Johnson, who rose from deep poverty in eastern Tennessee to become president during one of the most challenging moments in American history. Taking office after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, Johnson faced the immense task of leading a nation through reconstruction following the Civil War. And each one of our presidents is honored at different locations known as the Tennessee Presidential Trail; Andrew Jackson's The Hermitage just east of downtown Nashville, the James K. Polk Home in Columbia and the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site in Greeneville, along with monuments at the State Capitol in Nashville. These three presidents shaped an amazing America, a story built by Tennesseans willing to step forward when history calls. https://fox17.com/amazing-america/the... _______________ Follow! Like!
