The guards at Pisticci camp didn't see anything out of the ordinary—a civilian train arriving like any other. The train lurched to a stop with a sudden jolt. Everything went silent. Inside the train, a gangster-turned-legionnaire checked his weapon one final time. An aristocrat who could drive locomotives listened for any sign of alarm. A disgraced tank commander steadied his breathing. Eighty kilometers deep into enemy territory. They had just stolen an entire train.
