Finally visited Beijing, China!! I was kinda nervous before the trip as things work a little different there as compared to other countries.. I had to research on a lot of things to make sure the trip goes smoothly and here are some of my tips~ Apps you need to download: 1. WeChat WeChat pay and Alipay are the most common payment methods in China. It makes it ten times more convenient to get around. 2. Alipay In addition to using Alipay for payments, you can also book DIDI (private hire vehicles) directly through the app without needing to download a separate application. Alipay also enables you to register for metro and bus cards that generate QR codes, allowing you to conveniently board and alight from public transport. 3. Meituan This is the app for anything food related. Such as looking for nearby food options, food delivery and buying food vouchers at a discounted price. 4. Changi Pay (For Singaporeans) I found out that any purchases more than 200 Yuan will cost us a 3% transaction fee. But, if you use Changi Pay as the payment method, you won't have to pay the additional 3%. Best for big purchases. To note: sometimes the payment takes a little while to show up on the vendor's side. Just have to wait for a bit. 5. XiaoHongShu I use this app to get ideas on where to go whenever I have an empty time slot. It is especially useful to get recommendations from locals on restaurants and shopping spots. Essentially an alternative of Google. 6. Baidu Map Google maps does not work well in China. Therefore, make sure to download Baidu Map to get around. 7. Sim card with local number DEFINITELY get a sim card with either a Chinese or Hong Kong number!! You'll need a Chinese number to even use some apps (like Meituan) and make reservations for restaurants. At some clothing stores, you can even get discounts if you sign up as a member, which will require a local number to do so. -- I got mine from MobiMatter That's all I got to share! I hope you'll enjoy the city as much as I did~
