And the journey ends for us on what has to be the best 6 Day adventure I have encountered, completing the Overland Track in Tasmania. As you can see from this short video, we did encounter most of the extreme conditions that were discussed in our pre walk briefing by one of the National Park rangers. Take the advice given for this walk and always be prepared for the extreme change in conditions. It does happen We were very well equiped with PLB (locating beacon) and satellite phone as well as all season tents and the necessary required clothing for all situations. The Overland Track is a self-sufficient walking journey in Tasmania’s high country where you may be exposed to weather extremes. You can depart in the morning enjoying a sunny day only to be battling through a snowy blizzard by evening. You must still carry a tent as there is limited space available in the cabins but most importantly this will also give you independence to stop and take shelter in places other than designated camping areas when it is unwise to proceed (e.g. severe weather, injury or fatigue). Overland Track weather is notoriously unpredictable and changes rapidly—ensure you are prepared. Check the forecast before departing and discuss conditions with staff including sunrise and sunset times, so you know how many daylight hours you have to walk.
