Former Singapore foreign minister George Yeo has issued a sharp strategic call from New Delhi, urging India, China and ASEAN to come together under a modernised Panchsheel 2.0 framework. Speaking in the presence of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Yeo argued that Asia’s largest powers must anchor mutual respect, non aggression and peaceful coexistence in an era defined by AI disruption, trade wars and multipolar rivalry. Yeo underlined that China enjoyed nearly two decades of uninterrupted growth after joining the WTO, expanding its economy sevenfold in a far more favourable global environment. India, he said, began its rise much later and now faces tighter geopolitical pressure, protectionism and strategic distrust. Despite Galwan hardening perceptions, Yeo stressed that neither India nor China can change the other, but both must recognise mutual legitimacy. ASEAN, he added, sees India as a critical counterbalance and stabiliser.
