SOUNDBITE (English) Michael Liedtke, The Associated Press: ++PARTIALLY COVERED++ "So this was a big day for the stock market because the world's most valuable company reported its quarterly earnings today and that company is the bellwether of the artificial intelligence boom, which is Nvidia, whose chips really power all the AI factories out there. What we saw today was definitely the demand for AI chips from Nvidia remains very feverish based on the growth rates that Nvidia reported today which were way above what analysts projected, but it didn't really settle the debate that's hanging over the stock market about whether AI is an overblown hype or whether it's going to be a springboard into a new era of productivity and prosperity. So even though Nvidia really kind of hit a home run in terms of its financial results, it still did not get the big pop on its stock that you would expect. Initially it did. It went up 4% in extended trading today, but by the time its CEO, whose remarks are closely followed, was done with his conference call, the stock was actually slightly down, and that's consistent with what has happened in the past two quarters when Nvidia really had banner quarters, but its stocks still kind of fell a little bit. And that underscores the worries of investors that this will turn into a bubble that will burst, and everyone's kind of worried that maybe even despite all the spinning that's going on in AI, that it won't justify the trillions of dollars going into it." Various exteriors of Computex 2024 venue showing sign for Nvidia STORYLINE: Artificial intelligence chipmaker Nvidia on Wednesday announced another quarter of astounding quarterly growth as investors try to decipher whether technology’s latest craze is overblown hyperbole or a springboard into a new era of prosperity and productivity. The results for the November-January period blew past the analyst projections that shape investors’ perceptions, as has been the case since Nvidia’s high-end chips emerged as AI’s best building blocks three years ago. Nvidia’s fiscal fourth-quarter revenue surged 73% from the previous year to $68.1 billion while its profit nearly doubled to roughly $43 billion, or $1.76 per share. The Santa Clara, California, company also provided a forecast exceeding analyst projections while its CEO Jensen Huang reinforced the demand for the company's chips is still “skyrocketing."
