Featured on the Putumayo collection "Sahara Lounge." Originally released on January 20th, 2004. From the liner notes: Nabiha Yazbeck is a Lebanese singer whose voice was first heard by a wide public through her work on the soundtracks of a number of popular television programs. She was a member of a traditional choir led by educator and musician Fouad Awad for four years, and has released two albums in Lebanon. Her inspirations include the legendary Lebanese singer Fairuz and the Rahbany Brothers, an influential group of composers, playwrights and poets who revolutionized popular Lebanese music. For her second album, Astahel, Yazbeck was joined by the innovative producer and songwriter Guy Manoukian, who has been at the forefront of blending traditional Middle Eastern music with electronic elements.Together, Manoukian and Yazbeck created the title track, which features acoustic instrumentation (Spanish guitar, accordion and percussion) supported by subtle programmed beats, sound effects and a laid back, funky swing. “Astahel (I Deserve)” is in the khaligy style and dialect common in the countries of the Persian Gulf region and complains of a lover’s cruelty and rejection.“I discovered who you really were / But only after it was too late / Yet I will not let you go until you pay back your debt of love / I thought we shared the same feelings / But I was given the cold shoulder / What a pity I wasted my time and feelings on you.”
