Watch live here Comet C/2026 A1 (MAPS) is a newly discovered Kreutz sungrazer that is currently moving through the constellation Cetus. Discovered on January 13, 2026, it is heading toward an extremely close encounter with the Sun on April 4, 2026. Current Sky Position (March 10, 2026) Constellation: Cetus. Magnitude: Approximately 10.9 to 11.2 (visible with telescopes or large binoculars). Coordinates: Right Ascension 02h 33m 25s, Declination -12° 32' 08". Visibility: It currently sets in the West shortly after the Sun (around 8:20 PM local time) Upcoming Key Dates Late March 2026: Expected to brighten rapidly as it nears the Sun. April 4, 2026 (Perihelion): The comet will pass within 120,000–159,000 km of the Sun's surface. If it survives, it could reach negative magnitudes (potentially as bright as Venus or even visible in broad daylight).
