Obstructive Shock | Shock (Part 5)

In our 5th lesson on shock we take a look at obstructive shock. One of the most common questions asked is "what is obstructive shock?" We take an aim at being able to explain what obstructive shock is, but how it differs from cardiogenic shock as well as the other types of shock. For this lesson, we cover 5 main causes of obstructive shock; tension pneumothorax, cardiac tamponade, constrictive pericarditis, aortic stenosis, and finally pulmonary embolus. For each cause of obstructive shock, we break down the pathophysiology of what is happening as well as covering some of the obstructive shock signs and symptoms specific to each cause. We also make sure to cover the obstructive shock treatment and management for each of these causes. We use a series of visuals and explanations to be able to clearly explain the process of what is going on with each type of cause as well as what you would expect to see in your patient. Finally we make sure and cover the various diagnostic tests as well as the treatments available depending on the cause of the shock.
