I was thinking about whether there were any SM64 glitches that remained unsolved, and I remembered bobmario511's video in which he caused fly guy to achieve a very negative size [ • Super Mario 64 - The Most Bizarre Glitch ]. Thus, I decided to look into it to figure out what was going on, and perhaps whether it could be useful. You see, when fly guy decides to shoot a fire at Mario, he first grows in size. His size increases by 0.06, then 0.05, 0.04, 0.03, 0.02, 0.01, 0.00, and then decreases by 0.01 and finally 0.02. After this, the growing phase is complete, and fly guy's fire timer starts counting up from 1. Once it reaches 12, fly guy shoots a fire and returns to normal size. However, if we have Mario quickly move so that fly guy is no longer facing Mario, then the fire timer resets to 1 and fly guy must orient himself towards Mario once more. When this is achieved, the counter starts up again, but more importantly we get one more frame of "growth". Remember how the growth size changes went from 0.06 to -0.02? Well we can activate one more of these each time fly guy reorients himself. Consequently, the next size changes would be -0.03, -0.04, -0.05, etc. So by repeating this procedure, we can make fly guy's size arbitrarily negative. Unfortunately, when fly guy has a negative size, he cannot be attacked or bounced on, so this isn't all that useful. If there were some way to make fly guy's size very large instead of very small, then this would essentially allow Mario to warp to any height. However, I could not find any way to make that happen. Also worth noting is that not all fly guys are programmed to shoot fire. For example, the one in Rainbow Ride will never do so. So everything in this video only applies to the ones that do shoot fire.
