Picture this: You're craving authentic Malvani seafood. Not the watered-down fusion versions, but the real deal - the kind coastal Maharashtra is famous for. That's where Maharashtra Lunch Home comes in. This Mumbai-based chain has made its way to Pune, bringing Malvani and Konkani coastal flavors with them. They have branches across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and now Pune. The question is - does it live up to the hype? I went in and ordered everything I wanted to try. The bill? ₹2,227 for two people. Let me break it down. What We Ordered: Tandoori Lollypop - ₹354 Chicken lollypop done tandoori style. Standard preparation, nothing extraordinary but done well. Bharlela Bombil - ₹371 This is where things get interesting. Bombay Duck (bombil fish) stuffed with spiced coconut masala and fried. Classic Malvani preparation. The bombil is delicate, the stuffing has that coconut-spice balance typical of coastal food. Crab Butter Pepper - ₹615 The most expensive item on our table. Crab cooked in butter and pepper sauce. This is their premium offering. Mutton Kolhapuri Thali - ₹613 Complete traditional thali. Mutton cooked in Kolhapuri spices, rice, bhakri, curry, sol kadi (that kokam drink), and the usual accompaniments. This is what Maharashtrian home cooking tastes like when done right. Prawns Papad - ₹138 Prawns with crispy papad. Simple starter. Total: ₹2,227 after taxes About Maharashtra Lunch Home: They welcome you with complimentary kokam shots - sol kadi. The ambiance is comfortable, nothing fancy but clean and well-maintained. Service is decent. They specialize in seafood thalis but have chicken and mutton for those who don't eat seafood. Their Mumbai branches in Kharghar, Vashi, Nerul, Panvel, Thane, and Vikhroli are quite popular. The Pune branch maintains similar standards. The Real Question - Is It Worth ₹2,227? Here's the honest answer: The food is authentic. The quality is good. The preparations are traditional. But yes, it's premium priced. You're paying for authenticity, ambiance, and a certain dining experience. If you're craving proper Malvani food and price isn't a constraint, Maharashtra Lunch Home delivers. If you're looking for budget-friendly seafood, there are other options in Pune.
