Initially, Tesla aimed to produce 250,000 Cybertrucks annually at its Texas Gigafactory, with a potential ramp-up to 500,000. However, Tesla sold only about 40,000 units in 2024, and inventory is reportedly piling up. To address this, Tesla has asked Cybertruck production workers to shift to Model Y production, citing "business needs." The company has also started offering discounts of $1,600 on Cybertrucks and even added lifetime free supercharging to some inventory. In some cases, Tesla removed "Foundations Series" badges to sell them as regular, cheaper models. Additionally, Tesla homologated U.S. Cybertrucks for the Canadian market to boost sales. Despite launching more affordable Cybertruck variants, Q4 2024 deliveries were flat or lower than Q3. Meanwhile, Tesla is preparing to produce a new Model Y version at its Texas facility, following its launch in China.
