Ultimate DIY Budget Grinder Pedestal Base MIG Welding. We all need a nice sturdy base to mount our bench grinders. I chose to mount mine on a heavy duty DIY custom pedestal to free up bench space. Follow along as I build this heavy duty grinder base for less than $40.00! I started out with a heavy duty brake drum from a piece of heavy equipment. I then cut up some 1/2" plate steel that I sourced from the scrap pile at the local metal shop, then to keep everything vibration free, I filled the steel column with sand just before mig welding. I sand blasted everything just before painting. The completed project weighs right around 150 lbs - 68kg. This is one heavy duty grinder base!
