Title: Medical Student Burnout by Race, Ethnicity, and Multiple Disability Status Speaker: Mytien Nguyen, MS Article: Medical Student Burnout by Race, Ethnicity, and Multiple Disability Status (JAMA Open) https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama... Description: Burnout among medical students is detrimental and is associated with depression and attrition. However, little is known about the risk of burnout among racial and ethnic underrepresented students with a disability, or among students who have cooccurring disabilities. To address this knowledge gap, we examined the prevalence of burnout among students underrepresented in medicine by race and ethnicity (URiM; American Indian or Alaska Native, Black, Hawaiian Native, Hispanic, Pacific Islanders) with multiple disability types. We will share our findings from this study, and discuss potential strategies to address burnout among racial underrepresented students with multiple disabilities. Bio: Mytien Nguyen is an MD/PhD student at the Yale School of Medicine. Mytien earned her undergraduate and graduate degree from Cornell University. Her work centers on eliminating barriers that prevent first-generation and low-income college graduates from pursuing a career in medicine. An advocate for health equity, she is a co-founder of the National First Generation & Low-Income Medicine Association. Sponsor: This season of the DREAM series proudly receives support from the Johns Hopkins Disability Health Research Center (DHRC). The DHRC is committed to transforming the narrative from "living with a disability" to "thriving with a disability" by employing data-driven and community-centered approaches. 🔔 Subscribe for more disability inclusion training resources.
