TUNNEL OF THE TITANS

This is our ongoing exploration in the middle of nowhere, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. The cave seems pretty atypical for the general area -- average depth of about 65 feet, huge tunnels, decent flow and almost no decorations. Here you can see us scootering out along newly laid line (Feb 7th, 2015) through what we have named the Tunnel of the Titans - a huge tunnel about 2000 feet long and about 15-20 feet high. Honestly, our lights and poor GoPro skills do not do the cave justice. The dive was approximately 3 hours along, and accomplished using side mount configuration (necessary due to a nasty little restriction at the beginning), 2 stages, oxygen, and scooters. Our technique for this cave is to stage the scooters on our bodies (you can see this in the first part of the video on Nat), swim in while simultaneously laying line and surveying, and then scooter out. This allows us to explore on 1/3s, and to minimize the dive time and deco obligations.
