This Sunday, we will stand with Jacob on the banks of the Jabbok River—a place of fear, exhaustion, and decision. After years of God’s faithfulness, Jacob finds himself trapped between what God has already done and what God has promised to do. Unable to go back and afraid to go forward, Jacob discovers that before he can face his greatest external threat, he must first be confronted by the living God. In Genesis 32, we will see how God lovingly dismantles self-reliance, wounds our pride, and teaches His people to prevail—not by strength or strategy, but by clinging to Him alone. It is a story not only about Jacob’s transformation, but about ours, as God leads us from independence into joyful dependence through Jesus Christ, the greater Jacob. I hope you will be able to join us. Soli Deo Gloria! Big Idea: Faithful dependence on God comes by encountering the living God. 1. Battling for Dependence 2. Prevailing through Dependence ============================ Preparation Questions: Genesis 32:1-33 1. Where in your life are you currently caught between fear and faith—unable to go back, yet afraid to move forward? How are you responding? 2. When fear rises, what is your instinctive response: prayerful dependence or strategic control? What “Jacob-like” patterns of planning, manipulating, or self-protecting need to be put to death? 3. What weaknesses, limitations, or struggles in your life might God be using to teach you to cling to Him? Why should this cause you to rejoice? 4. What can you do to grow in your understanding of (1) God’s protective presence in your life, (2) your inability to prevail alone, and (3) your new identity in Christ? ============================ Learn more about www.cccsanjose.org #faith #identity #god #genesis #sermon
