The 233-mph combined run was put in by GM President Mark Reuss, who had a passenger on board adding some additional weight while analyzing data on the run in real time. GM says that the top speed was hit in a new Top Speed Mode, which maximizes chassis control for optimal speeds. Notably, the ZR1 is substantially faster than the C8-generation Z06 in a straight line. GM says that a low-drag Z06 reaches 195 mph, but a car equipped with the optional Z07 aero package tops out at just 188 mph. The turbocharged ZR1 has nearly 400 hp on the 670 hp Z06, so the massive difference in speed is not entirely surprising. GM claims that the ZR1's 233 mph top speed record is the fastest for any car under $1 million, of any sort, from any country.
