Perhaps the most bizarre escape tactic is stotting (also known as pronking). Instead of immediately bolting, certain species like the Thomson’s gazelle or Springbok will leap high into the air with all four legs held stiff and straight. The Logic: It seems counterintuitive to waste energy jumping when you should be running, but research shows this is an "honest signal" to the predator. The Message: The antelope is essentially saying, "I am so fit and have so much energy that I can afford to waste it jumping. Don't bother chasing me; you won't win." Predators often give up the hunt immediately after seeing a vigorous stotting display to conserve their own energy. 👨💻 Follow Us: ► Facebook: / allthingswildlifetv ► Instagram: / allthingswildlifetv ► TikTok: / allthingswildlifetv1 ► Twitch: / allthingswildlifetv ----------------------- ----------------------- All materials in these videos are used for educational purposes and fall within the guidelines of fair use.
