By The News Observer Desk, Karwar: Uttara Kannada came alive with devotion and spiritual fervour as thousands of devotees gathered to celebrate Mahashivaratri at the district’s famed pilgrimage centres — Gokarna and Murudeshwar. At the historic Sri Mahabaleshwar Temple in Gokarna, an ocean of devotees thronged the temple premises from the early hours of the morning. By around 2 a.m., long queues had already formed, with pilgrims patiently waiting for a glimpse of the sacred Atmalinga. The special “Sparsha Darshan” (touch darshan) offered on the occasion of Mahashivaratri filled devotees with deep spiritual emotion, making the experience even more meaningful. The temple conducted a series of special rituals, including Navadhanya Seva and other traditional offerings to Lord Shiva. Devotees poured in not only from different parts of Karnataka but also from neighbouring states, turning the small coastal town into a vibrant centre of faith. The air resonated with chants of “Om Namah Shivaya,” echoing through the temple streets and adding to the spiritual atmosphere. Meanwhile, Murudeshwar too witnessed grand celebrations. Special pujas, abhishekas, and Maha Aarti rituals were held throughout the night, drawing large crowds to the temple complex. The area around the shrine remained bustling, with devotees participating in prayers and soaking in the festive spirit. This year, the temple administration, in coordination with the police department, made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth darshan, security, and traffic management. Thanks to disciplined cooperation from devotees and well-planned crowd control measures, the celebrations concluded peacefully and successfully, leaving behind a sense of fulfilment and divine grace among the faithful.
