I personally had never gotten a soil test until this year. I think that soil tests can be a very useful tool, but I don’t view that as the Holy Grail of lawn care. The average homeowner can maintain a nice lawn as long as they’re consistent with a few cultural practices (mowing, watering, fertilizing, etc). Soil testing involves collecting a sample of the soil from your lawn and sending it in for testing in a lab. The lab tests for things like Nitrogen levels, Phosphorus levels, Potassium levels, pH levels, and various other things.
