📚 When stories do more than entertain… they help children feel, heal, and grow. We had an intimate fireside chat with award-winning children’s author Vinitha, where we explored how reading and storytelling can open doors to creativity, empathy, and brave conversations with children — including topics like mental health, emotions, and growing up. Vinitha is an award-winning author and editor who paints and also writes poetry. An ex-journalist and columnist, Vinitha has written over 30 books—fiction, non-fiction, picture books—for children. Her stories are part of CBSE and ICSE curriculum. Her book Jamini Roy’s Unbroken Lines is part of the Parag Honour’s List and had been shortlisted for the Publishing Next 2024, Best Children’s Printed Book of the Year (8+ category); while her book Ammu and the Sparrows won the Neev Literature Award 2021 and made it to the Parag Honour List and is being used by therapists in narrative healing. The scholarship she won at Hedgebrooke’s Writers in Residence Program that supports fully-funded residencies for selected women-identified writers has led her to write her first not-for-children book. It is a food memoir. This episode of Parents ki Paathshala explores: • Reading as a superpower - understand how parents can nurture lifelong reading habits at home • Exploring stories as tools for expression - help kids through the emotionally complexities of childhood & adolescence • Navigating sensitive conversations - learn how to openly discuss mental health, body awareness & reproductive health A conversation for parents who believe that books can be safe spaces — and powerful teachers.
