Welcome to Hope County's Got Talent! Here is another contestant singing "Jesse James" or can also be known as "I Wonder Where My Poor Old Jesse's Gone" and/or "The Ballad of Jesse James". Recorded and edited by me. 'Hope County's Got Talent' was first created by me on Far Cry 5 in 2018, recording singers and scouting them to show you how good they are! Of course, you are the judges! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Jesse James" is a 19th-century American folk song about the outlaw of the same name, first recorded by Bentley Ball in 1919, and subsequently by many others, including Bascom Lamar Lunsford, Vernon Dalhart, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, The Kingston Trio, The Pogues, The Ramblin' Riversiders, The Country Gentlemen, Willy DeVille, Van Morrison, Grandpa Jones, Bob Seger, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (on the Uncle Charlie & His Dog Teddy album), Sons of the Pioneers, Johnny Cash, Liam Clancy, Mungo Jerry and Bruce Springsteen. Members of the Western Writers of America chose it as one of the Top 100 Western songs of all time. The lyrics are largely biographical containing a number of details from Jesse James' life, portraying him as an American version of Robin Hood, though there is no evidence to indicate that he actually "stole from the rich and gave to the poor". The song is the starting point of the Jesse James panel of a mural on American folk songs by Thomas Hart Benton. Robert Ford, who killed Jesse, was a James' gang member. Mr. Howard was the alias that James lived under in Saint Joseph, Missouri at the time of his killing. Yeah Jesse had a wife to mourn for his life, Three children, and they were brave, Well that dirty rotten coward that shot Mister Howard, As he laid poor Jesse in his grave. It was on a Wednesday night when the moon was shining bright When they robbed the Glendale train, But the agent on his knees, he delivered up the keys To the outlaws, Frank and Jesse James It was on a Saturday night when Jesse was at home Talking with his family so brave Along came Robert Ford, like a thief in the night And laid poor Jesse in his grave Yeah Jesse had a wife to mourn for his life, Three children, and they were brave, But that dirty rotten coward that shot Mister Howard, As he laid poor Jesse in his grave. Yeah it was that Robert Ford, that dirty little coward, I wonder how he must feel, For he ate of Jesse's bread and he slept in Jesse's bed, And he laid poor Jesse in his grave. SOLO GUITAR Yeah Jesse had a wife to mourn for his life, Three children, and they were brave, But that dirty little coward that shot Mister Howard, As he laid poor Jesse in his grave. Well the people held their breath when they learned of Jesse's death, And wondered how he ever came to fall Robert Ford, it was a fact, he shot Jesse in the back While Jesse hung a painting on the wall Yeah Jesse had a wife to mourn for his life, Three children, and they were brave, Well that dirty little coward that shot Mister Howard, As he laid poor Jesse in his grave. Yeah Jesse was a man, a friend to the poor, He'd never robbed a mother or a child, He stole from the rich and he gave to the poor Til that gang shot Jesse on the sly. Now I sing this song that was made by Billy Gashade, As soon as the news did arrive; Yeah he said there was no man with the law in his hand Who could take poor Jesse James alive? Poor Jesse had a wife to mourn for his life, Three children, and they were so brave, Well that dirty little coward that shot Mister Howard, As he laid poor Jesse in his grave. Yeah that dirty little coward that shot Mister Howard, As he laid poor Jesse in his grave.
