So the new Winter events have split up the playerbase into even more queues, and they did some new matchmaking changes, and I think all of that culminated in something bugged out with matchmaking. Because we had a bout 30 or so players trying to queue up into a few games, but only one or two lobbies popped with people dropping in and out. I get one lobby popping, but it's a bit weird to not see atleast 2 lobbies popping with the amount of people. Maybe they did something on their back end, or server side with East coast and West coast jazz, or something else. Idk, my dog started crying so I gave up after 30 minute wait time. Documenting this video here as a timestamp that some nerd can pull up for historical, objective, or anthropologic purposes. In anycase, it feels like you're gonna have to find the right pocket of time to get any matches going with the events that are happening, and for me I feel like I probably won't find anything good until after the event is over. I hope I'm wrong though. The new matchmaking timer seems like a new trick that Seasun is doing to artificially hide the long matchmaking timers which can happen depending on time of day and gamemode. Which is good for new players, but bad for pre-existing old heads for different reasons. Seasun has to be careful about burning old players in the acquisition of the new, because retention is important for growth. I think ultimately, hiding the timers for gamemodes that won't pop isnt' helping (like co-op extreme on some days).
