A Modern Mic with Vintage Sound @GoldenAgeAudioOfficial Hank here for Free Podcast Tools with my thoughts on the Golden Age Project FC1 MKIII. HERE’S WHAT’S INCLUDED BESIDES THE MIC: Shock mount Vinyl carrying case User manual PRICE: Suggested retail of $99 U.S. BUILD: Heavy duty brass body coming in at just over 1 pound. Discrete Class A electronics and transformer balanced output stage for vintage-style voicing. Gold-plated XLR connection for maximum conductivity. The grille does have some give to it. SPECS: 32mm Gold-Sputtered Large Diaphragm Condenser Polar Pattern: Cardioid Frequency Response: 20Hz to 20kHz Equivalent Noise Level: 18dB A-Weighted (website says 17) Maximum SPL: 130dB SPL Sensitivity: -36.5dB at 1 kHz Requires 48V Phantom Power TESTS: Off Axis and Rear Rejection Sound Comparison Lewitt LCT540S Proximity Affect PROS: The build quality is quite nice aside from one drawback. The look is beautiful in my opinion. The shock mount and carry bag are nice accessories. CONS: For optimum performance the manufacturer suggests you let the microphone warm up for 5-10 minutes prior to use. Heavy proximity affect when close micing. The grille is not rock solid. It has an internal 100Hz high-pass filter that is not easily accessible. NITPICKS: Equivalent noise level is at the ceiling of where it can become an issue. OVERALL: The Golden Age Project FC1 MKIII is a microphone that stands out in a crowd of budget mics offering a unique blending of the past and the present. I can’t fault them for taking a third swing at delivering their vision in the FC1. But ultimately it comes down to whether you think the mic sounds good or not. Be sure to chime in in the comments and let me know where you stand on the sound quality. 00:00 Intro 00:05 Accessories & more 00:14 Price 00:19 Build quality FC1 MKIII 00:43 Specs 01:13 Off-axis and rear rejection 01:47 Comparison FC1 MKIII to Lewitt LCT540 S 03:19 Proximity effect 04:02 Pros 05:05 Cons 06:20 Nitpicks 06:41 Overall thoughts
