The Deep Thought has been beached since 2024 after running out of fuel during a rough storm out on Lake Michigan. The out of state couple from Mississippi had intended to restore this boat once back home. The encountered a strong storm with some pretty rough waves I'm sure and apparently tried to make it into the McKinley Marina harbor area but ran out of fuel before and the waves had pushed them north past the marina. They tried dropping anchor but had an issue with the anchor that was manually operated that almost cost the wife her life and almost swept her overboard. The husband had to rescue wife at some point and leave the control steering area. The boat ultimately stopped once it hit the shallow bottom along the rocks along Lincoln Memorial Dr. The couple stayed on board for two days afterwards trying to free the boat but then another storm came with rough surf and waves, and they just gave up and made their way back home at some point. Multiple attempts were made to remove it over the months all of which failed. All City Towing finally gets the job done after what was an all-day job with a crew of 12 guys and the help of some heavy-duty tow trucks. 2 50-ton rotator wreckers, and 1 50-ton integrated wrecker for backup. The Deep Thought now rests on the Southside of Milwaukee in the tow lot where it's future is unknown at this point. Maybe it will show up somewhere for an art piece or who knows.
