The Burnie Story
The township of Burnie on the north-west coast of Tasmania with a population of 14,000 is the centre of the thriving pulp and paper manufacturing industry. This industry started in 1936 and produces from the forests in the surrounding country, not only timber for the building industry but from the timber waste all types of cardboard, and wrapping paper and even high-grade printing paper. The film shows the up-to-date and powerful machinery which is used from the time a tree is felled until the final paper product is shipped from the Burnie wharves. Afforestation is maintained to ensure the raw material will not be exhausted. Photography: Geoffrey Thompson. Narrated by Ray Chapman.
