In today's video, I will be testing gold rain from Spectrum Glaze. All around this glaze is very runny, and the metallic effect tends to lean towards a darker sheen on most of the bodies I tested today. The golden effect that is advertised only really appeared for me on a porcelain test. This glaze ran off everything it was applied to. To be fair, the manufacturer does give a warning about this runny characteristic on the front of the jar. I find that the nature of this glaze limits its range of function, making it something to use on the insides of containers, or on plates, platters, and other flat forms. I would say this is not a glaze that you want to get anywhere near a community studio, as one oopsie could have serious consequences for the work, the kiln furniture, and potentially the work around it. I’m sure there is someone out there making porcelain platters who can make use of this glaze in your studio. I encourage you to take extreme caution, as the warning about running is no joke.
