This week's older board game gem is Metro, designed by Dirk Henn and first mass-published by Queen in 2000. Players each have numerous stations around the board, and play track tiles in the middle to try to make their routes the longest. The tracks twist, bend, loop and cross each other, so helping yourself might help or hinder your opponent. This wasn't on my priority list of games to feature, but there's a Kickstarter from Queen for a new version of Metro (including a deluxe edition) that is live at the time of this post. I did this video quickly because the KS campaign is short and I wanted to get something up before the campaign ended, in case anyone out there was on the fence. Because it's a quickie video, I made a few mistakes, including a really embarrassing arithmetic error in the How to Play section. It was late at night! That's my excuse, anyway. 00:00 Intro 02:37 How to Play 03:03 How to Play (Really) 08:58 Shares Expansion Overview 13:20 Why It's a Gem Board Gems is a weekly video series highlighting board games that aren't talked about much any more — maybe they're a bit old (though not usually crazy old), or maybe they didn't make a big splash when they came out — but are still great games today, and deserve to not be forgotten! #boardgames #tabletop #vancouver #ludica
