Factories and warehouses. Nuts loaded into warehouse by an "elevator". Storage silos with nuts pouring in. Mechanical carriers, buckets containing nuts. Cargo is inspected to remove any rubbish. Light objects are trapped by a screen. Metal objects are trapped by magnets. C/U of objects found in cargoes that magnet has trapped. Nuts pass over rollers which break them down. Slow motion shot of the rollers in action. Broken pieces are passed through many rollers until become a fine meal. Meal is steam cooked in giant "kettles". Hydraulic presses are used to extract oil. Meal is pressed into cakes between two Hessian mats in a large press. They are placed in shelves which are in the press. When squeezed together the oil runs free. The cakes are taken out of the press and the edges are trimmed. Another method of extracting the oil is shown: expellers. This is more modern method. One machine can do all the work. Worm screw presses the meal into a slotted cylinder. Oil cake which remains is taken to another section of factory for further processing. Tanker is filled with oil by a long pipe from the factory. Vegetable oils being used as lubricants for machinery. A woman doing washing at her kitchen sink using soap produced from vegetable oil. Margarine being spread on a piece of bread.
