Like something out of a Studio Ghibli movie, this little train station is perched among the trees above an emerald green lake and is frequented by tourists for its wooden cafe, stunning blue lake and small but mighty Oigawa Railway train, which just so happens to run along the steepest tracks in Japan. Even if you are not a huge train fan, this station is a must-see for Japan photography fanatics, daredevils who want to walk along the tracks above the Oi river, or for anyone who wants to see a unique spot in Japan’s countryside. If you follow the Oigawa train along, you will reach Sessokyo Onsen station, where we stopped to wash away some of our sweat after chasing the train up and down for the perfect instagrammable photo.
