disassembly of 6390RDS - ALS holster by Safariland. I took out the sound due to some noise interference. -- note on the layering - this model is glued/secured ... I tried off camera earlier to pry it open, and seems this version I got was glued/secured... can't pry without a wedge or using some form of fulcrum. possibly this one not OEM or damaged, but the rest still same. thing is - see below - sure seems like a lot of hassle to fake. not sure. During the disassembly of the ALS Safariland holster, I noticed some intriguing manufacturing techniques: 1. Velvet Interior and Chicago Screws: The velvet lining conceals the Chicago screws, which appear not to be recessed. The velvet itself seems to prevent scratches on the slide, which is an interesting protective measure. 2. Molded Kydex Components: Some parts were inserted before the kydex was heated and then molded around the components. For example, the cap at the end was molded in such a way that it’s difficult to reinsert once removed. (Yes, I threw away the cap. It was too hard to get back in without reheating the kydex, and for my purposes, it’s not necessary. I’m not using this as a holster.) 3. Pressure-Fit Lever: The lever was not secured with screws but rather pressure-fit, likely with the kydex heated after assembly. 4. Assembly Process: It seems the holster was loosely molded, then fitted with the gun and components before final heating to create indentations. This method seems inefficient but might explain the premium price tag due to the complexity and precision required, either through manual labor or expensive tooling.
