Gurdaspur Encounter News: Ranjeet Killed in Police Firing, Akali Dal & Congress Demand CBI Probe

A police encounter in Gurdaspur's Purana Shala village resulted in the death of 19-year-old Ranjeet, who was allegedly accused of killing two policemen. According to the ground report, Ranjeet was picked up from Adhiyan village, over 30 kilometres away, and was being taken for recovery when he allegedly fled police custody, took a bike and weapon, and fired upon CIA staff at a police checkpoint before being killed in the encounter. The police have termed it 'poetic justice'. However, the incident has raised serious questions about police conduct. Family members of the deceased are demanding justice, while opposition leaders from Akali Dal and Congress have called for a Suo Motu inquiry by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, a CBI probe, and a judicial inquiry, terming the encounter as fake.
