The Retirement Annuity (RA) is traditionally a retirement savings vehicle and it may seem counter-intuitive to be contributing to a RA in your retirement. However, because withdrawals from a RA are taxed according to its own tax table (Retirement Tax Tables) and not the Marginal Tax Rates, this provides somewhat of an arbitrage opportunity where one can compare the tax rates on both tables and make use of the lower tax rate. In addition, due to contributions being tax deductible, thereby reducing your tax liability (even in your retirement), this opens up the opportunity to rectify any tax inefficiencies that were done at the point of retirement.
