Hello everyone. My good friend Zion@EJStratMan1 brought something to my attention two weeks ago and I couldn’t wait to see for myself and share with you. I’m sure any of you that are LNE railroad fans are familiar with the bridge that crossed the Lehigh River at the Lehigh Gap, but did you know that there was a small spur that hugged the mountain side? This parted ways from the mainline at the bridge on the East side of the river and worked its way down into Palmerton PA to interchange with the Chestnut Ridge Railway. This line went into service in April of 1914. I still haven’t nailed down exactly what they were interchanging with the Chestnut Ridge but I’m leaning towards Zinc products as Palmerton was the spot for Zinc smelting. Any information you folks may have about this little spur would be greatly appreciated. This is a 4 part series starting at the junction with the Chestnut Ridge and working back towards the gap. Thank you for watching. 5/17/25
