11 dead in bus-truck collision in Jhenaidah

11 people were killed and 15 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in Jhenaidah's Kaliganj upazila this afternoon. The number of deaths may increase, our local correspondent reports quoting Sheikh Mamunur Rashid, station officer at Fire Service and Civil Defence office in Kaliganj. The deceased include six women, two men and one child. Of them, two were identified as Reshma Khatun, 25, of Chuadanga Sadar, and Uzzal Hossain, 48, of Magura. The identity of the others could not be known immediately. The accident occurred in Barbazar area around 3:00 pm when a bus bound for Jhenaidah collided head-on with a truck, which was heading to Jashore, said Mahfuzur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station. Nine people were killed on spot as the bus overturned on the road, the official said. The injured were rushed to different local hospitals, he added.
