Starting the Petromax HK500 Lantern

My new lantern has arrived and it is time to get it fired up! I checked all the parts and made sure that they were in order and got the petroleum and priming alcohol set out. The glowing part of these types of lanterns consists of a glowing mantle, which is a soft cloth sock before first use. It gets attached to the lantern and ignited, which burns the cloth and leaves a very fragile membrane which becomes incandescent the heat generated by the burning petroleum gas.
