After meeting in 2022 through Enactus University of Alberta (UAB), a student organization dedicated to promoting social entrepreneurship, Ananya and Eric decided to leverage their diverse backgrounds to create an integrative project that tackles the nuances of conscious capitalism. “The Modern Tobacco Industry and the Market Response” is a project that explores the concepts of Economic, Social, and Environmental sustainability associated with the global tobacco sector and determines how public markets react to changes in the tobacco industry’s sustainability-focused actions through a historic and regression analysis. About the presenters Ananya Nandiraju (She/Her) is in the third year of her Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Finance and a minor in Business Technology Management. She is passionate about the intersectionality of sustainability and finance which led her to pursue this project alongside Eric! Eric Shen (He/Him) is a fourth year Bachelor of Commerce student majoring in Finance. During his undergraduate degree, he gained an interest in sustainable business practices and the role large corporations play in this emerging space. About CIS The Certificate in Sustainability is an undergraduate credential that rewards your choice to focus on human and environmental issues that are increasingly important in today’s world.
