How To Turn Off Daytime Running Lights In A Car: Disable Daytime Running Lights. In this video tutorial I will show you how to turn off daytime running lights in a car. If you want to turn it off, you can do it by: Twisting the DRL knob Most cars come with a ‘DRL OFF,' and if yours has one: • Locate the DRL knob on your vehicle beneath your steering wheel. If you can't find it, consult your vehicle's manual, as the location can vary by manufacturer and model. • Twist the knob to the off position. • All done. These steps should turn off the lights. If your car has no DRL knob, follow these steps: Use the Infotainment system You can easily turn off the DRLs by following these steps: • First, navigate to ‘Settings’ on your car’s touchscreen. • Select ‘Vehicle Settings’ from the options. • Tap the ‘Lighting’ option. • Find the ‘Daytime Running Lights’ settings. • Toggle the button to turn off the DRL lights. Remove the DRL Fuse First, activate the e-brake on your car. Alternatively, gently press the brakes until you hear a clicking sound. This tricks your car into thinking it's in parking mode. Then: • Find the ‘Fuse Box.’ It’s usually under the hood, door jamb, or in the instrumental panel. If you can't find it, refer to your car's manual. • Remove the cover and look for a fuse labeled ‘DRL.’ • All done. Cut the DRL Current Supply Wire Physically disconnecting the power supply to your DRLs is a more permanent solution to turn off the DRLs. To do this: • Locate the DRLs ‘Negative’ wire from the headlight assembly. • Cut or unplug the wire from the connector. If cutting is the only solution, ensure the cut is minor to facilitate a reconnection if this method doesn’t work. • Tape the exposed end of the wire. • Check whether the rest of the electrical equipment is working properly. Use the parking brake This is a temporary solution that you can achieve through these steps: • First, ensure the DRL knob is in the off position. • Now turn off your vehicle. • Afterward, engage the parking brake. • Start your vehicle. • All set. As long as the DRL knob is in the off position, the lights will be off. Alternatively, releasing the brake pedal should activate the lights. How can you tell the DRLs are on during the day? DRLs will turn on when the car’s ignition is on and the gear shifter is in drive. As a result, you will see white light emitting from both sides of the vehicle. Are there U.S. laws and regulations that govern the use of Daytime Running Lights? While there is no federal mandate for DRLs in the U.S., certain states may have specific regulations for their use under particular conditions.
