It is a remake of 1998's Resident Evil 2, described by Capcom as a "reimagining" and first announced on 12 August 2015 by Yoshiaki Hirabayashi and released wordwide on 25 January 2019 for the PlayStation, Xbox One and Windows operating systems. Unlike the 2002 Resident Evil remake, Resident Evil 2 was not developed with the intent of improving the original. Rather than improving the visuals and polishing the same script, this game is instead more a "reimagining" of the original story, with redesigned maps, characters and story elements. Gameplay mechanics are more similar to 2017's Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which also used the RE Engine, though with the use of an over-the-shoulder camera. Like that game, the Japanese version was subject to unique censoring to remove the more gory sequences. The Tofu Survivor (The 豆腐 Survivor) is a Minigame present in the Resident Evil 2 remake. In order to unlock this mode, The 4th Survivor must have been finished once, or it can be bought as DLC. The mode is again a parody of The 4th Survivor - except the player controls a Tofu. The stage, enemy spawn and level design are all the same from The 4th Survivor. The Tofu speaks Japanese during cutscenes and gameplay, however the dialogue from the U.S.S crew member remains unchanged. Exclusive to this iteration of the minigame is the ability to play as different types of Tofu, all of them have a different loadout and unique voices. Similarly, all of these characters become more visibly deformed as they take more damage. Below is a list of these Tofu and their pre-determined loadouts. TOFU A shadowy intelligence agent who's know for his ability to adapt to a wide variety of situations. He's only as good as the water he's made from. His low cost and good results have seen him serve active duty around the world in recent years. Code name: Tofu. His charm knows no bounds. FLAN The strongest intelligence agent, who can keep it together when breaking apart. Made with just eggs and some of the finest milk and fresh cream for a silky-smooth finish. Her sweet scent on the air makes people crave her in a way that may not be healthy. It's said that even the dead will come back to life for her. Code name: Flan Danger lurks behind that sweet face. KONJAC An intelligence agent who's sent in the clean up the mess, nicknamed "The Mopper-Upper." Some of his elements can be digested by human digestive juices, making him good for sucking up liquid inside the digestive tract, which helps to remove water and waste from the body. Many think him weak due to his low calorie count, but he can use the power of dietary fiber to eliminate any target. Code name: Konjac One must not underestimate his power UIRO-MOCHI A soft yet delightful chewy intelligence agent, with a simple, uncomplicated flavor. His one weakness is that he is susceptible to his environment, giving him a short shelf life. He grows hard with exposure to air, but his original softness can be restored by steaming him for a short time. To take maximum advantage of his special skills, it's best to send him on limited (bite-sized) missions. Code name: Uiro-Mochi No one can stop his evolution ANNIN-TOFU An intelligence agent who originally acted as a negotiator, helping to erase the bitter taste of medicine. Even now, he can often be found using his negotiating skills to achieve a delicate balance between sweet and savory.
