This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together. Special Thanks to Hazim! :) Assalamualaikum! Name kawan Andy. Ape kabo? Hello! My name is Andy. How are you? Let's talk about the Johor Malay dialect. Johor Malay, Bahasa Melayu Johor or Cakap Joho, is a regional dialect of Malay spoken primarily in the state of Johor, Malaysia. It shares many similarities with the Riau and Singapore Malay dialects due to their close historical and cultural ties. Known for its smooth and polite tone, Johor Malay often drops certain consonants at the end of words and uses unique vocabulary compared to Standard Malay. The Johor Malay people are known for their refined culture, deeply rooted in tradition and elegance. One of the most iconic elements is their traditional clothing—the Baju Melayu Teluk Belanga for men, featuring a collarless design with distinctive tulang belut stitching, paired with kain samping and songkok, while women wear the Baju Kurung Teluk Belanga, often styled with traditional textiles like kain benang Johor and kain songket. Johor is also famous for its rich cuisine, including Mee Bandung Muar, Laksa Johor (uniquely eaten with spaghetti), and the refreshing Air Katira, especially popular during Ramadan. In the performing arts, Johor is the birthplace of Zapin, a lively and elegant traditional dance, and also home to other dances like Ceracap Inai. The state’s musical heritage includes Ghazal, a poetic musical form influenced by Arabic and Indian elements, and Kompang, a popular percussion ensemble used in weddings and celebrations. These cultural treasures reflect Johor’s role as a cradle of classical Malay identity. This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes. It aims to provide valuable insights and knowledge to viewers, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of different languages and their unique characteristics.
