In this episode of The Quick Sip, we sit down with Jamiel Said, a singer-songwriter whose musical journey began in the late 90s. From clinching 3rd place in the MLCC Songwriting Competition (1998) to penning award-winning Chinese songs, Jamiel’s early years were marked by courage and determination. He shares how he crafted his first original CD in the early 2000s — even boldly attempting to pass it to Sheila on 7 at a concert — and later trying again in Bandung concert. By 2003, his path took him to creating SMU Music Club and into meeting Musica Studios, rubbing shoulders with names like Peterpan and Nidji. Jamiel recalls the thrill of his first bar performances, his breakthrough gigs abroad in Thailand, and his rise to the finals of Mediacorp’s Live & Loaded in 2009. His journey eventually led him across borders, signing with a Malaysian label for Nafasku, before earning a spot in the 2013 Anugerah Planet Muzik (APM) nominations. Along the way, Jamiel learned not only the craft of music but also the business behind it — from networking to navigating the realities of the industry. This episode captures Jamiel’s raw beginnings, his bold risks, and the milestones that shaped his foundation as an artiste. We are actively looking for sponsors to work with us!
