In this video, Pinpoint Laser Systems demonstrates how to precisely measure the runout of a CNC machine using the Pinpoint Microgage laser alignment system — capturing real-time positional data across a full axis of travel and delivering accurate runout results in both horizontal and vertical axes. This CNC runout measurement setup uses the following components: Laser Transmitter: Positioned at one end of the machine, projecting a straight reference beam through the full length of the machine axis being measured. Digital Receiver: Mounted to the moving stage, measuring left and right as well as up and down displacement of the stage relative to the laser reference beam as it travels through its full range of motion. Microgage Display and Pinpoint Capture Software: The display unit connects to a laptop running Pinpoint Capture, which records readings automatically at approximately five readings per second — one reading every 0.2 inches of travel — and applies a linear regression or line fit to the accumulated data to calculate precise runout values. The measurement process demonstrated in this video: The CNC stage is moved through approximately 20 inches of travel in the X axis while runout is monitored continuously in the Y and Z axes. Pinpoint Capture records readings throughout the full motion of the stage and applies a linear regression to determine true runout. Results in this demonstration showed horizontal runout of 0.002 inches (5.1 microns) and vertical runout of 0.00003 inches (7.6 microns) — delivering the level of precision required for high accuracy CNC machine verification. This method is ideal for: CNC machining center runout measurement and verification Linear stage and slide runout checking Machine tool calibration and acceptance testing Spindle and axis alignment verification Quality control of precision manufacturing equipment Any application requiring precise straightness and runout measurement along a machine axis Made in the USA | Free Technical Support | Custom Mounting Solutions Available Speak with an Alignment Engineer: (978) 532-8001 Learn More: https://pinpointlaser.com/application...
