One arm Position. Two Movements. Maximum biceps and triceps tension. It's been a while since we went over and actual exercise demo video so today, I’m demonstrating one of the most biomechanically correct and efficient ways to train both the triceps and biceps — using a shared optimal upper arm position that maximizes muscle activation while minimizing joint stress. This technique is based on insights from Arthur Jones, the founder of Nautilus and investor of the Nautilus CAM Shell, and confirmed by modern EMG feedback studies which demonstrated higher muscle activation. The key principle: Position the upper arm forward and slightly above parallel to the torso, with the elbow pointing ahead. From here: A forward chop motion effectively targets the triceps. A reverse chop motion works the biceps through a full, tension-filled range. In this demo I'm using a rope and a neutral grip, but you can twist and turn your wrist to peak the triceps and the biceps. Both setups allow you to maintain the ideal arm position and alignment through each motion. Key takeaway: As Arthur Jones taught, it’s not about constantly chasing new exercises — it’s about finding the most mechanically efficient position for the muscle to work.
