Two Project 22460 “Okhotnik” border patrol ships were struck in Inkerman Bay in the Russian-annexed Crimea Peninsula on Saturday night. Hits on the targets have been confirmed and the extent of the damage is being clarified. Earlier, on the same day, local residents reported hearing two powerful explosions in Crimea, near the center of Sevastopol, the headquarters of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. Separately, two Be-12 aircraft were struck on the territory of the Yevpatoria Aviation Repair Plant, in Crimea’s Yevpatoria city. These were the two Russian Be-12 “Chaika” anti-submarine amphibious aircraft that “Ghosts” elite unit under Ukraine’s Main Directorate Intelligence struck on September 21, after which they were undergoing repairs at the plant. Since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, Crimea has been a rear base for Russian forces. Russia maintains extensive naval, air, and ground assets on the peninsula, particularly in and around Sevastopol, headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet. However, Ukrainian long-range strikes using drones and missiles have repeatedly targeted these facilities, damaging ships, air defense systems, ammunition depots, and command centers. These attacks have forced Russia to relocate parts of its fleet farther east and reinforce air defenses across Crimea. Ukraine’s long-range missile strikes hit facilities particularly in and around Sevastopol.
