Charlie Plumb Toastmasters IceBreaker

Imagine spending the "prime time" of your young life in a prison cell in an unfamiliar land. That's what happened to Charlie Plumb, who, at the young age of 24, was shot down over Vietnam, captured as a P.O.W., tortured, and imprisoned until the age of 30. Despite the hardship and trials I can only imagine he went through, there was an awesome camaraderie among the over 200 prisoners of war held in their prison camp at the Hanoi Hilton. Even in the midst of being imprisoned in a place commonly translated as "fiery furnace," some of the prisoners decided to start a Toastmasters group as a way to keep their minds active. Our TGIF Toastmasters group had the wonderful privilege of having Charlie Plumb come speak with us and we were all in for a treat. The following clip was just the beginning of his presentation where he performed the very same Icebreaker speech that he gave as a newbie speaker in the prison cells of the Hanoi Hilton.
