"Abide with me" by Henry Francis Lyte, to "Eventide" by William Henry Monk. Menin Gate Last Post Ceremony in Ieper / Ypres, Belgium Remembrance Day, 11th November, 2016, 20:00 Emma Brown and the West Yorkshire Police Band www.ejebrown.com The Menin Gate is a memorial to more than 54,000 Commonwealth and British soldiers who went missing during the Ypres Salient in the First World War. Those whose bodies were found are buried in nearby cemeteries. The Last Post has been played at the Menin Gate every day since 1928, apart from during the occupation in the Second World War. "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them." ABIDE WITH ME Abide with me; fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide; When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me. I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless; Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness; Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if Thou abide with me. Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes; Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies; Heav’n’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me. "When you go home, tell them of us and say For their tomorrow, we gave our today."
