We are reminded to put no confidence in the flesh, considering our lineage, upbringing, works of righteousness, and all our fleshly qualifications as rubbish because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus. We are encouraged not to view Jesus as a mere add-on, or a “cherry on top” of our lives, but as the foundation.
