CNN ranks Kenting as one of Asia’s most underrated places

CNN Travel has released its list of “18 of Asia’s most underrated places,” which includes the tourist hotspot of Kenting in the southernmost point of Taiwan. It’s the only place in Taiwan to make the list, but what makes it so special? FTV reporter Stephany Yang spoke to some tourists to find out. Kenting was named one of the 18 most underrated places in Asia by CNN Travel. The area is known for its beautiful beaches, bustling night market, and breathtaking sunsets. But what do tourists in Taiwan actually think about Kenting? Kelly Tourist It was fun, it was a nice beach resort area. The time we went was not a right time of the year though. There was nobody there. It was nice, we had it to ourselves. We rented scooters and rode around the island area. It was great. Lisa Tourist We went to Eluanbi Park which is really nice, and really pretty, but people mostly fly into Taoyuan airport which is closer to Taipei. So, to justify going all the way to the southern part of Taiwan, I think they need to do a bit more than just what they have right now. Be a little bit more tourist-friendly and more resort-like. I think Kenting is like a kind of tropical destination feeling place. So we probably say make it a bit more western tourist friendly. The article recommended visiting Eluanbi Park and its lighthouse, referring to it as one of the top eight iconic landmarks in Taiwan. It recommends strolling to the southernmost tip of Taiwan to watch the sunset. It also recommends visiting Wanlitong beach, where several scenes from “Life of Pi” were shot. The beach is also known for its beautiful sand and crystalline water and is considered a scuba diving and snorkeling paradise. Tourist There are diving spots here, and the views of the ocean are very beautiful. Tourist It is super beautiful and refreshing here. Ms. Hung Diving operator Our underwater ecology is very rich. We have a rich coral reef ecosystem, tropical fish, and many intertidal organisms. There are also some fish that partially bury themselves in the sand, so you can get a glimpse of their ecosystem. According to CNN list, no trip to Kenting is complete without a stop at Longpan Park, with its grassy hills that afford fantastic views of the starry night sky. Some tourists we asked said they have never heard of Kenting, but look forward to exploring more hidden gems like Kenting in Taiwan. Dayres Tourist We are climbing Mount Yushan in May. We are regular mountain climbers. We are climbing Yushan because there is a trilogy of three mountains in Asia. That is Mount Fuji, Mount Kinabalu, and this one. Naj Tourist When it comes to traveling in Asia, when it comes to my friend group or anyone I know in general, we don’t really talk about traveling to Taiwan because it is mostly Japan, China, or South Korea. I think since Taiwan is smaller geographically so it doesn’t get much attention. But it’s pretty nice so far actually. We just arrived (in Taipei) but the best part was the night market. The food was very affordable. If you have a budget, it is perfect for you. If you are concerned about the taste, it is perfect because you have an assortment of meat, desserts, and also rice meals. Lisa Tourist Everybody comes to Taipei. That’s like the really obvious one. I personally think Hualien is really pretty. Especially the Taroko National Park is really pretty but not a lot of people know about it. With travel slowly recovering, tourists are eager to travel and explore some of Asia’s hidden gems.
